 Nigel Szembel

NIGEL SZEMBEL, CEO

A career communications professional with 30 years’ international experience Nigel has run corporate affairs and marketing functions for the Corporation of London, Deutsche Bank AG, Collins Stewart plc, Tullett Prebon plc and Fundsmith LLP, and has been responsible for investor relations at three FTSE 250 companies.

He has experience of IPOs, listings, de-listings, return of capital, fundraisings and M&A. He has run successful campaigns to consolidate investor bases and increase sell-side analyst coverage, to defend corporates from digital and traditional media attack and disinformation, and to promote primary legislation in the UK parliament. He has assembled and led crises response teams following major international incidents, directed global communications programmes in response to geo-political events, and run communications operations in support of major litigation, and regulatory and law enforcement enquiry.

In addition to communications, as part of a plc senior management team he has been responsible in Latin America for successfully leading complex corporate reorganisations including M&A, and including obtaining necessary government and regulatory approvals.


BILL BLASE, USA COVERAGE

Bill Blase, Pulitzer Prize nominee and Principal of our New York based US affiliate, WT Blase & Associates, began his career as a print and broadcast reporter with United Press International and was a regular contributor to The New York Times, The Washington Post, The International Herald Tribune, and The Boston Globe, among others.

This was followed by a career move into corporate and financial communications, first as the chief corporate spokesman for United Technologies Corporation (UTC), a Fortune 45 company whose holdings include Pratt & Whitney, Otis, and Carrier Corporation, and then as vice president of corporate communications at Scudder, Stevens & Clark (today Deutsche Asset Management). 

A regular contributor to the media debate in the US about the growing importance of strategic, high impact communications programs, Bill's firm specializes in the development and execution of public relations and market positioning programs not only designed to establish his clients as industry leaders, but help them build equity in their brands around the world. Founded in 1990, the firm is also highly regarded for its media spokesperson and executive presentation programs.

CHERYL CHICKOWSKI, ENGAGEMENT

Cheryl has significant experience in stakeholder engagement and event marketing. She has directed campaigns throughout EMEA and managed marketing and engagement programmes involving sponsorship, hospitality, events and internal brand building in some of the worlds’ largest companies such as Deutsch Bank and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and for the British Venture & Private Equity Association.

She has negotiated title and other corporate sponsorship on some of Europe’s major properties such as the Frieze Arts Fair, DB SAP Open, Berlin Philharmonic, Lord’s MCC Cricket Ground, Venice Biennale, Festival d’Aix en Provence, Russian National Orchestra, the Royal Academy of Arts and the London Film Festival. Cheryl has overseen the design and execution of CEO programmes, event marketing campaigns, sector conferences and corporate hospitality from 20 to 1000 participants.

She has managed hospitality programmes at Wimbledon, the US Open Tennis Championships, The Ryder Cup, The World Cup, Six Nation Rugby, Chelsea Flower Show, Formula 1, film premiers and The Cannes Film Festival. She has also managed a broad range of memberships, debentures and boxes such as Club Wembley Box, O2 Arena, Chelsea Football Club, Serpentine Gallery, Twickenham, Garsington Opera, Grange ParkOpera, Glyndebourne, the Royal Opera House, Tate Modern, Royal Academy, V&A, Roland Garro and Murryfield.

COREY HARRIS, BRAND CONSULTANT

Corey is an experienced brand consultant, who has been leading creative teams for over 20 years. Corey moved to the UK from New Zealand in 1997 where he started as head of design at M&A house BT Wolfensohn, before moving to Deutsche Bank where he established and ran their Creative Services Team. A multidisciplinary team of creatives which provided full agency services internally for the investment bank, maintaining the bank’s website db.com, producing advertising campaigns, marketing collateral and specialised events collateral.

Upon leaving Deutsche Bank in 2006, he established and co-owns Leap Creative a small fast-paced agency positioned to service blue chip companies such as HSBC, Herbert Smith Freehills, InfraRed Capital Partners and Tullett Prebon.

NEIL JENSEN, EDITORial & CONTENT

Neil is a financial writer and award-winning football journalist with extensive experience of corporate communications, internal communications and sports journalism. He spent the first 20 years of his career as a banker before training as a journalist at University of London. Since 1996, he has worked as a writer and editor for Deutsche Bank in London, dovetailing his banking career with his freelance football writing activities.

He has written for over 40 publications and also worked for the BBC and Sky Sports. Neil left Deutsche Bank in November 2016 and is currently a columnist for a Sunday newspaper and provides editorial support to a major professional services company on business matters related to the football industry.

Alexi Lambrou, DIGITAL

A veteran within digital communications from both agency and client side environments, having grown-up with the digital revolution, Alexi has over a decade of eclectic global exposure gained from brand transformations with some of the world’s biggest brand-owners.

Alexi has led teams around the world, from the online campaign division for TMN Media, to several international consulting roles at the likes of BBDO, he then spent several years as Global Brand Manager of international vodka brand - Stolichnaya. There, he spearheaded global digital media initiatives, the rollout of 2 integrated ATL campaigns and successfully managed the PR efforts surrounding the Sochi, Crimea and LGBT anti-Russian crises.  Moving to the role of Global Digital Marketing Manager at Reckitt Benckiser HQ, he headed up social and mobile marketing across the group’s £bn divisions for brands such as Durex, Finish, Nurofen and Dettol.

Alexi’s core skillset lies within brand storytelling, experiential events and integrated digital communication plans. He is an experienced public speaker, undertaking various philanthropic missions across the world for vulnerable young communities and those with learning difficulties.

KARL McCartney, campaigns

A transportation and a local authority specialist, Karl has worked for the Corporation of London, Westminster City Council, the Strategic Rail Authority and Transport for London and the City based Management Consultancy; Initiate. He has run public affairs programmes including those leading up to the successful promotion of primary legislation in the U.K. Parliament, international communications campaigns within the financial services sector, and as a Member of Parliament he was, for five years, a Member of The Transport Select Committee. As a management consultant his clients have covered local government, defence, insurance and transport sectors. His project management experience includes being the Campaign Director of the successful Sir Keith Park Memorial Campaign.
